Who are the Sandy River Steelheaders?
The Sandy River Steelheaders were formed in 1964 and are located along the banks of the Sandy River in Troutdale, Oregon. Since its inception the group has helped to play a key role in the development and conservation of sport fishing and is dedicated to improving the freshwater fisheries in the Northwest. The group also participates in the following activities:
· Angler Education Programs
· ODFW Hatchery Programs
· ANWS Hall of Fame Banquet
· Group Fishing and Picnics
· Various Fundraisers
We are committed to safeguarding, promoting, and enhancing the social, environmental, and conservational values of sport fishing. Our mission is to take part in "Educating the general public on improving, preserving and promoting sport fishing in the Columbia River and it's tributary streams and rivers, which include the Sandy."
The Sandy River Chapter of the Association of NW Steelheaders helps support the "Steelhead 101" course conducted every year to help those new to Steelhead fishing get off to a good start. The above photo shows the staff who assisted with the 2024 class at Glenn Otto Park in Troutdale. Each of these individuals are Certified Angler Instructors through the ODFW.
The Sandy River Chapter conducts a Sandy River Clean-up twice each year to remove trash and other debris that have accumulated from Oxbow Park to Lewis and Clark State Park. Membership of the CCA assisted in 2024.
The Sandy Chapter holds an annual Dinner and Auction fundraiser each year to help offset costs associated with various programs the chapter supports.
The Sandy River Chapter meets at Glenn Otto Park the first Thursday of each month. During each meeting we invite a speaker - local river guides, hatchery personnel, ODFW staff, and Fish Industry representatives provide great information on how, when, and what when fishing local PNW rivers - especially the Sandy River.
Meeting typically last until 9pm - we always have a meeting raffle were those in attendance can win great prizes - rods, reels, lures, etc .
Attend a meeting and find out what the Steelheaders are all about!
