Fishing Guidelines:
Participants must have.
Valid Oregon angling license
Combined Angling Tag
A Hatcher Harvest Card (if not using the app)
Fish harvested on "guided trips" are NOT allowed to be entered. If you need clarification on a fishing question, contact the tournament director.
Fishing is allowed from any type of floating vessel and any public or private (with permission) accessible bank area from Dodge Park to the mouth of the Sandy River.
Only "hatchery" Steelhead may be entered. Participants are responsible for knowing how to distinguish a "native" fish from a “hatchery” fish.
Eligibility:
Participants must be enrolled as a full-time high school student or the equivalent at Barlow HS, Centennial HS, Corbett HS, Gresham HS, Open Door Christian HS, Parkrose HS, Reynolds HS, or Sandy HS and be meeting Oregon School Activities Association academic eligibility requirements. Academic eligibility will be verified by home school personnel prior to each designated week - Any/all Steelhead caught by a participant deemed academically ineligible by their home school will not be counted in the final results.
Tournament Dates:
There will be four (4) tournament dates (legs) scheduled from December through March. The four dates will be determined by the Sandy River Steelheaders Board and communicated to all Participants at least one week prior to the first day of the next leg in the series.
Time:
Fishing allowed one (1) hour before sunrise until one (1) hour after sunset. Participants are responsible to determine exact time.
Check In:
Steelhead will be checked in electronically via text messaging to the Tournament Director.

Fishing Parameters:
Steelhead must be caught on the Sandy River from Dodge Park to mouth of the Sandy River.
Entering Fish:
You may enter a total of two (2) Steelhead per tournament leg. A total of 8 Steelhead can be checked in for the four tournament legs, i.e. two Steelhead per leg. The minimum Steelhead length is 24″ inches. Only Steelhead may be entered. Dressed or frozen fish will not be accepted.
Regulations:
All entries must follow ODFW Fishing Regulations.
Measurement & Verification:
Measure the Steelhead from lip to the tip of tail along the lateral line using a soft material measuring type to the nearest ¼”.
Verification Process:
Hatchery or native – Hatchery only!
Take “final measurement” photo(s)
Verify photo(s) meets the guidelines
Photo 1 – Fish Measurement
Photo 2 – Photo of participant with fish
Send photo(s) via text to Tournament Director(s)
Include Name, Region, Measurement
Photo(s) will be reviewed by Tournament Director and measurement verified.
If any adjustment is required participant will be notified before results posting.
Prize Allocation:
The winners of each individual tournament leg will be determined based on the total length of the Steelhead checked in that leg. Leg winners will receive $100.
The winner of the Overall Tournament Series (all four dates combined) will be determined by adding the lengths of all fish recorded during the four legs. Overall Tournament Series winner will receive $500.
*Note - Tie Breakers: In the event of a tie for any place the winner will be determined by using the length of their largest fish. If the measurement of that fish results in a tie, the winner will be determined using the length of their second largest fish, etc.
End of Series Raffle Prizes:
All participants are automatically entered in the end of series prize raffle – a variety of fishing items will be available. Participants will earn an additional ticket for each Steelhead checked in meeting tournament requirements, A total of 9 raffle tickets can be earned for the raffle. The Raffle will take place at the April Meeting of the Sandy River Steelheaders.
Waiver/Release:
Participants must complete the Waiver/Release form prior to competing in the tournament. In the case a participant is under 18 years of age a Parent/Guardian must also help complete the form. The form is located here.
